Princeton Cemetery

The Princeton Cemetery is located in the Borough of Princeton and is managed by the Presbyterian Church. Founded in the 18th century, it is the burial ground to several noteworthy characters in history. The large real estate of the cemetery may sometimes require a map to find the grave of a loved one. Most of the professors and students of the Princeton University were buried in the Princeton University and can be found to this date.

The cemetery was built deeply within the Church and University, interestingly certain mysterious happenings which cannot be concluded due to lack of evidence include the Princeton Cemetery, certain people who have been believed to be buried elsewhere were found buried in the Princeton Cemetery.

Some of the people of note buried in the Princeton Cemetery:

  • Grover Cleveland (1837 – 1908)
    Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th President of the United States. He was in office from 1885-1889 and 1893-1897 and has long served the government under several other titles like the Governor and Mayor. Frances and Ruth Cleveland, his wife and daughter respectively, were also buried in the Princeton University.

  • John Witherspoon (1723 – 1794)
    John Witherspoon signed the US declaration of independence and was also the President of the Princeton University (then known as the college of New Jersey).

  • Richard Stockton (1764-1828)
    Richard Stockton was a senator of the United States, he was also an attorney for the state of New Jersey for a couple of years. He graduated from the Princeton University after which he decided to serve the government.

  • Roger Atkinson Pryor (1828-1919)
    Roger Pryor was a civil war general and undertook several roles in his career including being a politician, jurist, newspaper editor and congressman. Unlike most of the other noted burials in the Princeton University, Roger Pryor barely spent any of his life in the city of Princeton or the state of New Jersey. He served much of his career in New York.

  • John Renshaw Thomson (1800 – 1862)
    John Thomson was also a Senator like Richard Stockton; he was also the director of the Delaware Canal company for a brief period before he was senator.

  • Edward Samuel Corwin (1878 – 1963)
    Edward Samuel Corwin was a professor of law and also authored several books, after achieving his undergraduate and Ph.D degree in established universities, he became a professor at the Princeton University and served there for a long period of time until he eventually reached retirement.
